 |
On a visit to Newcastle, Brooks Newmark (MP for Braintree) heard from Local Conservatives about their campaign to retain the post office network in the city.
Brooks said: "I was delighted to meet up with Jason Smith and other Conservatives in Newcastle - all who are fighting on behalf of local residents to keep our post offices open. Post offices are a lifeline to many in our community, especially the elderly. I do hope local people will join Jennifer in fighting to keep our post offices open."
Alan Duncan, the Shadow Minister for Tyneside, has given his backing to the campaign. He said: "I fully believe that Post Offices are a vital part of our community life, playing an important social role.
"I fully support the Conservative Party's campaign to save the Post Office network. Rather than looking at ways of getting business into the post office network the Government have set a centralised target to close 2,500 post offices.
"Regional targets will mean that even profitable post offices will be forced to close just because they are in the wrong area. Post Offices are a vital local service and I hope that the Post Offices in Newcastle will survive Labour's cuts."
