IT'S TIME FOR CHANGE IN NEWCASTLE

Conservatives in Newcastle have unveiled the candidates who aim to bring change to the city. The party will be contesting all 26 wards in the local elections on 6 May– with two candidates standing in Denton ward.

Stephen Parkinson, Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Newcastle North, said: “Our candidates come from a wide range of backgrounds and ages, and we’ve got a nearly 50-50 split of men and women. All of them share a determination to see Newcastle thrive under new leadership at the civic centre.

“Although the Lib Dems have done some good things since they took over from Labour in 2004, they are still leading the city in the wrong direction.

“Too many decisions in Newcastle are being taken behind closed doors – like the pay-off for the former chief executive and the appointment of his successor.

“Council tax remains too high – Newcastle’s is the fourth highest of the 36 metropolitan councils outside London.

“The Lib Dems seem to be waging a war on the motorist – with the West Road and Gosforth traffic schemes designed to make congestion worse.

“And Newcastle is falling behind on education – with the worst GCSE results in the North East last year, lower than Gateshead and Sunderland. We want to see city councillors take the issue more seriously.

“Conservatives have the vision and ambition to make our city greater. On the same day that we hope to bring change to the country, we are fighting to bring change to Newcastle.

“All of our candidates will be a strong voice for their area in the civic centre rather than the council’s mouthpiece in the ward.”
