Councillors Ignore Gosforth Residents and Businesses; Voting in a Red Route

Newcastle councillors have snubbed the preferences of residents and businesses in Gosforth by voting to implement a Red Route along Gosforth High Street and remove 40 car parking bays from the Salters Road car park.
Local Conservative campaigner Steve Kyte who addressed councillors at the Civic Centre asking them to reconsider their decision said “I’m bitterly disappointed, the majority of respondents to the consultation did not want these proposals to go ahead and have been ignored. A clear indication that Gosforth needs a strong and dynamic voice to take up the case for our community.”

Gosforth - Jubilee Road Resurfacing

As many of you will know local Conservatives have been campaigning for improvements in the condition of road surfaces around Gosforth. The good news is that resurfacing work is under way on Jubilee Road, where our local campaigner Steve Kyte was pictured last year. The work is scheduled to be complete by the 6th April.

Fire Station Closures on Hold

News that T&WF Authority have chosen to use £6M of reserves to extend the time to implement planned changes to the fire service and put the cloure of Gosforth Community Fire Station on hold have been welcomed by Gosforth Conservatives.

Local campaigner welcomes progress as Government triples small business Prompt Payment pledge

Local campaigner and businesswoman, Jennifer Nixon, has  welcomed the news that in just four months the number of FTSE 350 firms signing up to the Prompt Payment Code has tripled. There are now 126 FTSE 350 firms signed up to the code, with 94 new firms joined since November last year.  Three quarters of FTSE 100 companies have signed, or are in the process of signing, the Code.  This represents good news for small businesses across Newcastle.  

Local Conservatives welcome recognition for Arctic convoy and Bomber command

Following a meeting earlier today between the Prime Minister and armed forces veterans, Conservatives from Newcastle have welcomed the recognition of veterans who served the United Kingdom as part of the Arctic Convoy and Bomber Command.  Folowing their service during the Second World War, it is only right that these men finally receive due credit for the role that they played.
